Biography for Paul Milner
Although born in England, Paul grew up on the Otago Peninsula. Educated at Bayfield High School, he went on to complete a Bachelor & PGDip of Arts at Otago University, majoring in Geography. After a short tenure as Teaching Fellow, he has spent the past ten years working alongside people with intellectual disabilities, and men and women recovering their mental health.
Paul began work in the disability area by supporting men as they began their lives in the community following deinstitutionalization of Cherry Farm Hospital. More recently he set up and managed the Supported Independent Living Service for the PACT Group in Dunedin and has been a researcher at the Donald Beasley Institute since 2003.
Paul's specialist areas of research interest include social inclusion and community participation, the life quality of people with intellectual disabilities, and the impact of different models of service delivery.
